The ASAKUSA Culture Zone at HYPER JAPAN Festival 2019 is home to so much of what makes Japan a fascinating place that it really should be one of the must-see places for any HYPER JAPAN visitor.
There will be incredible Japanese products and design on display with DOKI bringing some of Europe’s largest range of seasonally-inspired ceramics and pottery imported directly from Japan, Hoklin’s stunning handmade tin art and jewellery and intricately handcrafted Okinawan sanshin thanks to ASOVIVA.
The Japanese Garden Centre, BONSAI and Ohara School of Ikebana, UK will be on hand to show off the best of Japanese green fingered skills and aesthetic sensibilities. Any gardeners and flower-lovers out there should definitely stop by.
For those who are planning to visit Japan, or perhaps just dreaming of that once-in-a-lifetime trip, our tourism area might be your first port of call. Japan travel experts Inside Japan Tours and the Japanese Tourist Organisation JNTO will be around all weekend to give advice and answer your questions as will representatives from ODAKYU and EAST JAPAN railway companies, the LIMOUSINE BUS and various Japanese Local Governments promoting their beautiful and fascinating regions.

In Japanese folklore and legend, the kitsune (fox) is one of the common and recurring characters. Kitsune are said to be very clever but also sly, wily and not entirely be trusted, at the same time, kitsune characters are often found in popular anime including Naruto and Pokemon. One of the more unusual workshops of the HYPER JAPAN weekend in the ASAKUSA Culture Zone this year is the Fox Mask Painting workshop. Based on the masks used in Japanese Noh theatre, this is a rare chance to create your own version of a Japanese character and a beautiful memento to bring home.
The Fox Mask Painting workshops take place during Saturday’s afternoon session at 4.00PM and 6.00PM and at 9.30AM, 11:30AM, 1;30PM and 3.30PM on Sunday and cost £5 to cover the cost of materials used. If you would like to take part, please come to the Activity Area in the ASASKUSA Culture Zone an hour before your preferred workshop begins to get a voucher and ensure you can join.
