Find some Japanese friends for your kitchen!

After the success of the 2018 show, we are happy to announce the return of the JAPAN FOOD SHOW at this year’s HYPER JAPAN Festival 2019! This is a show which no fan of Japanese cuisine will want to miss! You can discover the secrets behind some of your favourite foods, such as sushi, ramen and katsu curry, as over 40 producers of different Japanese food and drink products gather together under one roof.

Taste Japanese Flavours!

The JAPAN FOOD SHOW offers you a rare chance to talk to producers from Japan and around the world. What’s more, you’ll have a chance to check out some of the coolest new ingredients and products now available in the UK, which are sure to inspire your own culinary adventures.

If you participate in our questionnaire, you’ll be entered into a prize drawing for free tickets to our winter show in November.

With a veritable feast of information on Japanese food on display, and the chance to win prizes, the JAPAN FOOD SHOW is sure to leave you feeling satisfied.

The event is open to the general public on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July, and entry is free to HYPER JAPAN Festival ticket holders. Samples will be available for most foods while supplies last.

Meet Kohta Morie, CG maestro!

Kohta Morie is a computer animator known for his dynamic and stylish visuals, which range from photorealistic expressions to cel-like animation. Although he made his start working on other artists’ anime, he also writes and directs his own work.

A Master (Anime) Puppeteer Explores Life and Death

Tomoyasu Murata creates puppet animations that delve into themes of life and death. His works mix realism and fantasy to depict both our world and the afterlife, and he portrays his characters through expressions and actions rather than words.

Tokyo is a densely populated urban area full of high buildings and crowded shopping centers. And the city’s inhabitants have more and more craving for nature. This is why rooftop gardening is becoming increasingly trendy in Tokyo. Some are ordinary gardens, others are community gardens that offer an opportunity for Tokyo inhabitants to grab some soil and feel that they are living in harmony with nature.

Nintendo is Switch-ed On!

We are so excited to announce that Nintendo is coming back to HYPER JAPAN this summer with a ton of playable games, and Nintendo Labo hands-on time!Their lineup is as incredible as ever, with titles like Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, and Dragon Ball FighterZ – all which will be playable there!

Meet the Okinawan Instrument: Sanshin at HYPER JAPAN

The sanshin is a traditional Japanese stringed instrument from Okinawa. The precursor to the shamisen!

The sanshin company ASOVIVA bringing beautiful sanshins from Okinawa, tropical southern islands of Japan.

Even if you’re a beginner, don’t worry! They will also bring the sanshin manual written in English, CD and DVDs! Find them at HYPER JAPAN Festival 2018.

Stand Exhibitor: Jolly Awesome

Stationery and Greetings Card publisher Jolly Awesome has teamed up with two of Sanrio’s cult characters – Hello Kitty and Gudetama on a new range of greetings cards, notebooks, art prints and mugs!

Jolly Awesome were approached by Sanrio to inject their contemporary humour into the cult classic design of Hello Kitty and newer lazy egg character Gudetama.

Hello Kitty features in her usual cute form but showing her fun side taking selfies, drinking coffee, partying with her squad and being a girl boss. Gudetama is more of an audacious character struggling to deal with ‘adulting’ and full of cheeky innuendos!

He’ll be performing at the DNP area “Manga Planet presents HYPER Anison Party feat. Taketeru SUNAMORI” over the three days at HYPER JAPAN Festival 2018, so don’t miss it!

PROFILE
Taketeru Sunamori is Composer and author in Japan.
In 2009, He presented his first sound novel movie on Niconico Douga as indie creator, and became the first generation of “Net-Creator” in Japan.
In 2013, He released the first major-label album “Kakusei Love Survivor” from the famous anime label, FLYING DOG. He wrote same titled novel as author with this album, and this novel was published by KADOKAWA DENGEKI, the most famous publisher in the light-novel genre. After that, he is known as double-jobbing creator, as a composer and as a novelist.
Recently, he composed game music, including Square-Enix’s smash hit game “Grimmsnotes”. And with the company, he joined to official concert tour as writer, including “Final Fantasy” and “Kingdom Hearts”.
In 2017, He started the carrier as DJ, and performed as guest DJ in China and Singapore, with famous Japanese Anisong musicians.

Please read the following Volunteer Terms and Conditions before you apply.

Volunteer Terms and Conditions (Click to Expand)

  • All volunteers must be 18 years old or over on 13 July 2018.
  • You have responsibility for arranging your own transport to and from the site. Please see the website for more details on how to get to the venue.
  • Expenses, including travel and accommodation, will not be reimbursed.
  • Your priority as a volunteer is to help us run the HYPER JAPAN. We appreciate that there may be specific attractions you want to see over the weekend, however, you are required to complete your committed hours of your shift.
  • You will receive a reply from us in June on whether you are required for volunteer work.
  • If you are not a UK/EEA/Swiss national, you will be required to submit a copy of your passport and visa.
  • If you are accepted, you will receive an acceptance notification and be informed of the shifts you will work, with an Information Pack which contains Staff Handbook and Job Manual.
  • Briefing and training will be provided on-site at the beginning of each shift.
  • All volunteers must arrive at least 30 minutes before your shift. Please note that the morning shift begins at 8:00 AM as shifts start before the event opens.
  • We cannot always get friends to work in the same position or same shift.
  • Unfortunately we do not always have enough positions for all the applicants. We will carefully select volunteers, based on a number of criteria including availability and interest. Generally speaking, flexibility with your time can improve your chances of getting a volunteer position.
  • We will try and match your skills to volunteer positions available, however, we cannot accommodate every request.
  • All volunteer applicants will be subscribed to the HYPER JAPAN newsletter from which you can unsubscribe at any time.
