We at HYPER JAPAN are proud to present Utaniwa Collabo on the HYPER Live! Stage!!
Enjoy the pure notes of a classical opera sung by soprano Marina Okamoto as master gardener Fuyuki Tabata creates and changes the surrounding garden scenery in real time.

There’s no stage trickery or fancy computer graphics with this performance, just time-honoured gardening techniques and classic training in a stunning fusion before your eyes. Watch one of their live performances to understand what Utaniwa Collabo is all about!

Guest Announcement: Xmas Eileen

Japanese rock band Xmas Eileen will be taking over the HYPER Live! Stage for their very first UK performance! Think mysterious, masked group meets catchy blend of rock, rap, and DJ tracks!


Four of the group’s seven members will be coming over – the twin vocalists, the performer, and the DJ and from what we’ve seen, their set list is quite something!!

Profile:
Formed in 2014, Xmas Eileen gained a following amongst rock fans performing at music festivals like SUMMER SONIC. The group consists of twin vocalists, a performer, guitarist, drums, base, and a DJ, all named “No name”. Their first album, ONLY THE BEGINNING dropped in August 2016.

Sake Experience 2018: So Who Won?

We’ve received questions from HYPER JAPAN attendees about which sake were voted the winners of the Sake Experience 2018.

With three categories, the winners were:

People’s Favourite

Kubota Senjyu
Type of Sake: Ginjo
Rice Variety: Gohyakumangoku
Rice Polish Ratio / ABV: 55% / 15%
Best Served: Chilled, Room temp., Warm

This food friendly sake has a clean aroma of fennel, spearmint and subtle green apple. It has a spicy yet refreshing & crisp aftertaste, and pairs nicely with many dishes. It can be served at a variety of temperatures.

Best Sake for Sake Beginners

Shirakabegura MIO Sparkling Sake
Type of Sake: Sparkling
Rice Variety: Gohyakumangoku
Rice Polish Ratio / ABV: 60% / 5%
Best Served: Chilled

This gently carbonated, low-alcohol sake showcases the natural sweetness and fruitiness of rice. A great introductory sake, ideal as an aperitif or served with a light sweet course, such as fruit or sorbet.

Best Match with Non-Japanese Food

Koimari Saki Ginjo
Type of Sake: Ginjo
Rice Variety: Gohyakumangoku
Rice Polish Ratio / ABV: 60% / 15%
Best Served: Chilled

A gentle nose of cedar, black cherry, and dried porcini mushroom. Well-balanced body with refreshing acidity, mellow umami, and sweet notes of dried apricot and sour cherry. Excellent with prawns or scallops.

DJ Taketeru Sunamori plays to a Full House!

Coming all the way from Japan, DJ Taketeru Sunamori aka DJ sunaP brought the latest wave of club anison music to the UK!

The Sunday session saw DJ Taketeru Sunamori play to a full house on the HYPER Live! Stage.

Mixing hit anime songs with some sick beats, the DJ had the crowd going wild!

DJ Sunamori made a special appearance during the HYPER Bon-Odori Challenge, fusing club beats with traditional music!
