Who hasn’t heard of Mirai Suenaga? Originally created by Danny Choo back in 2007 as a mascot to prettify his website , Mirai Suenaga (pronounced “mee-rai soo-eh-na -gah”) has taken the world by storm and is now a massive global phenomenon in her own right!
This summer, HYPER JAPAN is proud to announce Mirai’s creater, Danny Choo, will be taking to the HYPER Theatre stage together with Mirai in all her glory!

Danny will be giving a series of talks on Japan from the viewpoint of a foreign national, and on starting your own business. That’s it?
Think again! There’s a lot more of Danny and Mirai yet to be announced to watch this space…
We guarantee it’ll be worth the wait.

HYPER JAPAN is bringing you a festival of light this Christmas. We are inviting Japanese lighting installations as a part of our event, blending traditional and modern aspects of Japanese culture with unique and original ‘akari’ lights this November.

These illuminations are all individually stunning pieces of Japanese craft art that have a history in Japanese ‘matsuri’ festivals, but now also utilise the latest technology.
The above photograph is an example of the beautiful work that the artist that we have called in to help us this Christmas, has already made. An exhibition like this will make for a truly magical show for any visitor that comes to HYPER JAPAN Christmas 2017. This marks the first time that installations of this scale, featuring up-and-coming Japanese artist from Japan, will have been brought to the UK.
If this exciting project has flicked a switch in your head, just wait! We’ll be releasing more information soon!
This is a free exhibition for anyone who gets a general ticket this November. Click below to get your ticket now.

One of the many shopping opportunities at the HYPER JAPAN Christmas is the chance to pick up some seriously stylish and authentic Japanese apparel courtesy of Paris-based clothier Aoi Clothing. They will be showcasing a range of clothing for both men and women, ranging from the traditional to the modern.
There are few things more quintessentially Japanese than the kimono, with its beautiful fabrics and refined elegance. You can make a style statement with a distinctive yet distinguished piece from the Aoi range, inspired by traditional Japanese clothing styles. A kimono can be set off by an obi-style wide belt, or a luxurious scarf.
If you don’t quite feel like going fully Japanese, Aoi also offers a wide range of tops, dresses, skirts and trousers, all of which have a distinctly Japanese feel to them, combined with a generous dose of French chic. Don’t miss this opportunity to give your 2017 wardrobe a unique injection of style.

At the last HYPER JAPAN Christmas Market 2016, Alex Craciun, Executive Head Chef of London’s Sosharu restaurant, demonstrated how to make one of his signature dishes, a sukiyaki hot pot. He is coming back to HYPER JAPAN Christmas 2017 with his new recipe!
Sosharu, opened in 2016, is inspired by the Japanese izakaya, where small dishes and snacks are served as an accompaniment to alcoholic beverages, the venue celebrates the best of seasonal British ingredients in its unique take on classic Japanese dishes.
Central to the success of Sosharu is head chef Alex Craciun, whose background and experience make him uniquely qualified to serve up Japanese delights with an international twist. He in fact began his career as an electromechanical engineer, which perhaps accounts for the amazing precision of his dishes. He then worked in a number of high-profile venues, including Gordon Ramsay’s Boxwood Café and Noma in Copenhagen, before spending a year studying at the Kyoto Culinary School. He then worked at Tokyo’s Kikunoi and RyuGin restaurants before returning to head up the kitchen at Sosharu.
We still need to confirm the recipe,
but we are sure that it will be delicious!
Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to learn a fun new Japanese dish from a true culinary master!

Sake is becoming increasingly popular outside Japan, and what is becoming apparent to more and more people is just how many diverse varieties there are. Just as with wine and other beverages, there is a wide range of styles and quality levels at different prices, which can be difficult to navigate for the uninitiated. The HYPER JAPAN Premium Sake Shop is the ideal place to try before you buy.
Sparkling Gems
One category of sake that is coming increasingly to the fore is sparkling sake, which is wonderfully light and fruity. It makes a novel alternative to sparkling wine at parties or with nibbles. Cloudy sake, known as nigori sake, where some of the rice sediment is left in the liquor, is another deliciously different alternative that is catching on in many quarters. Again, you’ll be able to sample these and get advice on the best one for your requirements.
More Than Just Sake!
Not a fan of strong-tasting liquors? Try a sip of umeshu! Made from steeping unripened plums in alcohol and sugar, umeshu’s fabulous fruity flavour and low alcohol content (10 to 15%) make it a popular treat even for those who normally shy away from stiffer drinks. Enjoy it hot or iced, straight or as a secret ingredient to spice up a classic cocktail – the possibilities are endless! Meanwhile for spirits enthusiasts looking for something fresh and exciting, we recommend shochu – an earthy spirit that has become very trendy of late.
With all this in mind, we’re delighted to invite visitors to HYPER JAPAN Christmas 2017 to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to further their knowledge of some hidden gems of the alcohol world and discover new taste sensations.

We are thrilled to announce that excitingly androgynous J-POP sensations THE HOOPERS will be headlining the HYPER JAPAN Christmas Market. It comes at an exciting time for the band, who describe themselves as “eight girls dressed as beautiful boys,” as their debut album is released at the end of September.
Cross-gender performing has a long and distinguished tradition in Japan, from men portraying women as onnagata in kabuki theatre through to female performers taking on a male persona in the famous Takarazuka Revue. The Hoopers give this tradition a stimulating twist for a new generation. Their unique appeal lies in the way they combine boyishly acrobatic dancing with a sexy, feminine performance.
BIOGRAPHY
THE HOOPERS released their debut single, “Itoshikoishi Kun Love”, back in March 2015, and have since released a further four singles. Starting off as a seven-piece group, an eighth member, Cecil, joined the band during 2015. Their career steps up a gear in September when their first album, entitled FANTASIA, and accompanying DVD, are released.
The 2017 Sake Experience will be an amazing experience for any lover of sake. For those of you who haven’t had the luxury of drinking sake before, this is a must-try event! To get to know what HYPER JAPAN’s Sake Experience is all about, have a look below at the report from 2016! Like what you see? Then click the button at the bottom of the page to buy your ticket to the 2017 Sake Experience now!

With 8 Japanese sake breweries bringing 23 different sake and fruit-based liqueurs, not to mention over 800 visitors coming to the event, the Eat-Japan Sake Experience 2016 once again lived up to its reputation as Europe’s largest public sake tasting event. With long lines, spirited conversations, and even heated debate over candidate sake (not to mention numerous sake bottle purchased at the Sake Shop), it is clear that the UK sake market is not only a force to be reckoned with, but also one that enjoys a loyal following and is fueled by deep passion.

Participating visitors, after sampling the different sake and liqueurs, voted for their favourite in separate categories: “People’s Favourite”, “Best sake for sake beginners”, and “Best match with non-Japanese food”. With the votes tallied, the results are in!
Voted the overall favourite and winner of the “People’s Favourite” category was the “Hana-Fuga Yuzu” sparkling sake. This entry comes from the Ozeki Brewery and is a light blend of sparkling sake and yuzu citrus!
In the “Best sake for sake beginners” category, voters chose the “MIO Sparkling Sake“. Entered by the Shirakabegura brewery, this gently sparkling sake showcases the natural sweetness of rice.
And finally, for the sake which would be the “Best match with non-Japanese food” voters selected the “Koimari Saki Junmai Ginjo” sake. Entered by first-time entrant Koimari Brewery, this bold sake carries hints of mango, pineapple, and mandarin orange.
Congratulations to all three winning entrants and their breweries!
We hope to see you at the Sake Experience 2017 event!
